The past weekend in the area of the Vukovar-Srijem Police Department was marked by a series of concerning traffic incidents. According to police data, a total of 14 traffic accidents were recorded. In six accidents involving injuries, seven people were injured, of whom three sustained serious injuries and four sustained minor injuries. There were also eight accidents with material damage only.
The most serious accident occurred on Friday, August 7, 2026, around 1:00 PM in Vinkovci. At an intersection, a 21-year-old driver of a truck failed to yield the right of way to a motorcycle ridden by a 23-year-old. The young motorcyclist sustained serious injuries in the fall.
The police have announced criminal charges against the 21-year-old for causing a traffic accident, which will be forwarded to the competent state attorney's office. At the same time, the injured motorcyclist will face a misdemeanor citation for driving without a valid driver's license.
Another serious incident was recorded during the weekend in Sotin, around 5:15 AM. There, a 35-year-old driver of a passenger car, under the influence of alcohol at a level of 1.90 g/kg, ran off the road due to inappropriate speed. The driver was seriously injured in the accident, while his 41-year-old female passenger sustained minor injuries.
After receiving medical attention, the 35-year-old was placed in a special detention room due to the serious offense of drunk driving, and appropriate misdemeanor proceedings will be initiated against him.
In addition to accidents with injuries, the weekend was also marked by frequent collisions with animals on the road. The police recorded five collisions of passenger cars with wildlife, on the Vinkovci-Županja state road and on county roads on the sections Andrijaševci-Retkovci, Tordinci-Mlaka Antinska, Sotin-Tovarnik, and Vukovar-Petrovci. Additionally, one passenger car hit a dog in Trpinja.
Fixed speed cameras also revealed a concerning level of disregard for traffic regulations, recording 73 speeding violations over the weekend.
