The months-long saga over Vinicius Junior's future has finally come to an end. On August 6, 2026, Real Madrid officially confirmed that the Brazilian star has extended his contract with the club, putting an end to all speculation about his departure from Madrid.
According to information from Dnevni.hr, representatives of the club and the player met a day earlier, on August 5, to conclude negotiations and finalize all details of the new contract. Although financial details were not disclosed, the signing itself marked the end of a period of uncertainty that had drawn significant attention from the football public.
During the negotiations, Arsenal's interest was seriously mentioned, with the London club closely monitoring the situation. Arsenal was ready to make a move for one of the world's best players if Vinicius were to leave Santiago Bernabeu, but in the end, that deal will not happen. The Brazilian has decided to continue his career in the shirt in which he achieved worldwide fame.
Vinicius arrived at Real in 2018 from Brazilian club Flamengo and over the years has become one of the key players in the team. With the Madrid club, he has so far won two Champions League titles and three Spanish league championships.
Luka Modric, his former teammate, reacted particularly to the news of his stay. The former Real captain, who built an excellent relationship with the Brazilian over the years, took to Instagram. Following the club's official announcement, Modric accompanied Vinicius's post about the contract extension with just one heart emoji.
That brief message, without a single word, was enough to show how pleased he is that his former teammate is staying in Madrid. The Croatian footballer, whom fans in Croatia remember well for his masterpieces in the white shirt, once again showed class off the pitch.
