Vinkovci's indoor swimming pool Lenije has undergone a thorough energy renovation that is expected to reduce annual primary energy consumption by approximately 90 percent. The results of the project were presented at a conference held on August 19, 2026, at the building located at H. D. Genschera 14. This completes the pool complex, which also includes outdoor pools that Vinkovci had been waiting for nearly two decades.
The total value of the works exceeds 2 million euros, with 1.42 million euros coming from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. The project was co-financed with European Union funds, and the content of this publication is the sole responsibility of the City of Vinkovci.
Josip Barišić, head of the City Administration Department for Economy, described what was exactly done: "The renovation included the building envelope and roof, part of the exterior carpentry, the heating system, lighting, and other electrical and mechanical systems, and a solar power plant was also installed. The result is a more modern and significantly more energy-efficient facility, with a projected reduction in annual primary energy of approximately 90 percent."
Marko Šarić, director of Periska, the company managing the pools, highlighted the importance of the savings for daily operations: "This is a large facility whose maintenance and daily functioning require a significant amount of energy, so the implemented measures and achieved energy savings will be of great help to us in future operations."
Mayor Josip Romić stated that such projects are the result of collaboration among many people and specifically thanked the city administration departments, primarily the Department for Economy, as well as the Ministry of Regional Development and EU Funds for their preparation and support. He emphasized that the goal is to turn European and national funds into facilities that remain with the citizens of Vinkovci and improve the quality of life in the city. He added that few cities can be proud of such a facility, noting that it is the result of the joint work of a large number of people.
With the completion of the renovation, Lenije gains an even stronger sporting and recreational role. Just a few minutes from the center of Vinkovci, in a green belt and alongside the outdoor pools, facilities for professional and recreational sports, swimming, rest, and leisure are now unified.
The development of this part of the city does not stop here. Already next week, the presentation of the fully renovated Lenije Park and the refurbished former studio, now the Center for Youth, is announced. This will add another important facility to the area around the pool complex and connect it into a unique sports, recreational, and social whole.
