The Mayor of Buje, Fabrizio Vižintin, remains in investigative custody. According to unofficial information obtained by Glas Istre, after being held for a month in July as part of a broader USKOK operation on suspicion of abuse of office and favoritism in the awarding of city contracts, his detention has now been extended by an additional 60 days.

The reasons for the extension are to prevent influence on witnesses and the risk of reoffending. Vižintin, as highlighted by the City Council President, does not currently intend to resign.

The City Continues to Function

In an interview with Glas Istre, the President of the City Council of Buje, Bojana Puzigaća, stated that the City continues to function normally under the new circumstances. Acting Deputy Mayor Danilo Pištan is carrying out essential duties, and the City Council is meeting regularly and making decisions.

"The extension of the investigative detention for Mayor Vižintin shows that the situation we are in will not be short-lived. That is why it is currently most important that the City continues to function normally. The City Council is working, decisions are being made, the city administration is doing its job, and I, as Council President, am involved in everything necessary to ensure stability and continuity of work," said Puzigaća.

City Day and POS Apartments on Schedule

Despite the extraordinary situation, all planned events remain in effect. The celebration of City Day will take place as planned, and the ceremonial session of the City Council is scheduled for September 8 at 7:30 PM. A day earlier, on September 7, the project for a POS building with 20 apartments will be presented to the public.

"We are preparing as usual for the Grape Days, the City Day celebration program, and the ceremonial session of the City Council scheduled for September 8 at 7:30 PM. A day earlier, we will present the project for a POS building with 20 apartments. APN and banks will present financing options, after which the final list of beneficiaries will be formed, and all applicants will soon receive an official invitation to a meeting. By next summer, 20 young families will have their new home," said the City Council President.

Projects Continue

Puzigaća also listed other projects that are being implemented. The first successful application for the energy renovation of the University building has been submitted, marking the first such project to pass. By the end of August, the Studenca building in Stanica will also be submitted for the needs of the Red Cross.

Work on the construction of a retaining wall and fence at the artificial turf football field will soon begin. In September, the final list will be determined for nine families who will gain the right to build on city-owned construction plots.

"We have just applied for the energy renovation of the University building, which is the first successful application of its kind. By the end of August, we are also applying for the Studenca building in Stanica for the Red Cross. Soon, work will begin on the retaining wall and fence at the artificial turf football field so that the footballers are ready for the new season. In September, we will also determine the final list for nine families who will gain the right to build on city-owned construction plots," said Puzigaća.

Free Supplies and Transport for Pensioners

Funds have been secured for free school supplies for primary school students. A public tender for the renovation of children's playgrounds in Kaštel and Buroli is being launched, followed by tenders for playgrounds in Montrin and the Vladimira Nazora neighborhood. The procurement of a vehicle for transporting pensioners to the hospital and medical appointments is also in preparation.

"Funds have been secured for free school supplies for primary school students. We are also launching a public procurement for the renovation of children's playgrounds in Kaštel and Buroli, followed by those in Montrin and the Vladimira Nazora neighborhood. We are also preparing the procurement of a vehicle for transporting pensioners to the hospital and medical appointments. This is concrete proof that city projects are moving forward. We are handling all obligations in a timely and responsible manner, within the adopted budget. The circumstances are extraordinary, but the City has not stopped," concluded Puzigaća.

No Politicking

The City Council President emphasized that she does not want the current situation to be used for politicking and scoring cheap political points. The budget for the next period is not yet on the agenda, and it will be discussed when the time comes.

"This is not the time for campaigning or political bickering. Citizens expect us to do our jobs, to keep the City stable, and to solve problems. There will be time for political debates, and when they come, everyone will have the opportunity to clearly show what they stand for and what future they offer to Buje. I am confident that citizens will best judge who took responsibility in these circumstances, did their job, and contributed to our city continuing to function normally. Personally, I am at the disposal of all our fellow citizens at any time," concluded Puzigaća.
