On Friday morning, a serious incident occurred on the A1 motorway. A truck driver with Bulgarian plates, upon reaching the Demerje toll plaza, instead of stopping, made a U-turn and headed in the opposite direction, towards the south. During this maneuver, he caused a traffic accident but did not stop.
According to information from Slobodna Dalmacija, the police received a report about this incident at around 8:30 AM. After the collision, which resulted only in material damage, the driver continued driving in the wrong direction all the way to the Zdenčina junction.
At the Zdenčina junction, patrol officers from Hrvatske autoceste stopped him, and police officers soon arrived. When the police arrived at the scene, the driver requested medical assistance and was transported to the Sestre milosrdnice University Hospital Center.
The Zagreb Police Department stated that the driver is a 40-year-old Bulgarian citizen who had been driving northbound. Just before the toll booths at Demerje, he performed a U-turn with his truck and headed in the opposite direction, despite it being prohibited.
The police conducted an on-site investigation. Once medical treatment was completed, a criminal investigation will be conducted into the 40-year-old driver to clarify all the circumstances of the incident.
