Police stopped a 59-year-old driver with nearly three promille of alcohol in his blood on Tuesday morning in Velika Pisanica. After sobering up at the station, a court on Wednesday sent him behind bars for up to 15 days.
A 59-year-old man's drive through Velika Pisanica on Tuesday morning ended behind bars. Police officers stopped him on August 11, 2026, at around 9:05 AM, and the breathalyzer showed a blood alcohol concentration of as much as 2.87 promille.
Due to the extremely high alcohol concentration and the assessment that he might continue committing offenses, the driver was immediately taken to the Bjelovar Police Station. There, he was placed in a special room where he remained until the effects of alcohol wore off.
A day after the arrest, on Wednesday, August 12, the 59-year-old was brought before the Misdemeanor Department of the Municipal Court in Bjelovar along with a prosecution proposal. The police proposed a fine of 1,320 euros, along with a protective measure involving a three-month driving ban.
However, after the hearing, the court made a stricter decision and ordered his detention for up to 15 days. Immediately after, the driver was handed over to the Bjelovar Prison, where he will serve his time.
