Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić visited Nenad Rašković from Zubin Potok at the Clinical Center of Serbia, who claims he was beaten by Kosovo police. Kosovo's Police Inspectorate has launched a preliminary investigation.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić visited Serbian returnee Nenad Rašković at the Clinical Center of Serbia in Belgrade on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. Rašković claims that a day earlier, on August 11, three Kosovo police officers beat him in his home in the village of Dren near Zubin Potok, demanding he confess to a war crime.
After the visit, Vučić posted on Instagram that Rašković's injuries were more severe than expected. "I visited Serbian returnee Nenad Rašković at the Clinical Center of Serbia, who was beaten almost to death by Albin Kurti's police without any reason," Vučić wrote, referring to Kosovo's Prime Minister Albin Kurti.
According to Rašković's account, three officers burst into his home demanding weapons. "'Where's the weapon? Where's your weapon?' I said, 'I don't have a weapon.' Then one of them grabbed me, took a piece of wood, shoved me into the house, and beat me with his fists on the stomach and with a piece of wood on the head. Then he threw me out of the house," Rašković told N1 Serbia.
After that, he claims, he was taken to a nearby forest, tied to a tree, and beaten with a water hose, while being urged to confess to a war crime against Albanians. He was freed by friends and taken to the hospital in Kosovska Mitrovica, from where he was transferred to the Emergency Center in Belgrade due to his serious condition.
Orthopedic surgeon at the Kosovska Mitrovica Clinical Hospital Center, Goran Radojević, confirmed that Rašković was admitted with severe injuries sustained in a physical assault. "These are severe injuries; the further clinical picture and diagnostics depend on the patient's condition," Radojević stated.
Director of the Kosovska Mitrovica Clinical Hospital Center, Dr. Zlatan Elek, noted that Rašković sustained multiple injuries, including a broken rib. In his post, Vučić added that Rašković, upon learning that his second rib was also broken, only asked for his family to be brought to him and for his brother to be notified to take care of the livestock.
The Serb List, which reported the case to the public, claims the incident is not isolated and that several Serbs have been beaten in Kosovo and Metohija over the past 15 days. Igor Simić, a member of the Serb List presidency, called on all those who have experienced similar violence to speak out.
"What particularly hurts is that no one has been held accountable, simply because people are afraid. I call on all those who have experienced something like this to speak out. Let them say what was done to them," Simić urged.
The Kosovo Police Inspectorate announced it had launched a preliminary investigation into the case. "The Kosovo Police Inspectorate has launched this preliminary investigation with the aim of verifying the allegations and clarifying all relevant facts and circumstances related to this case, namely the police actions during the police operation conducted in Dren and Zubin Potok," the statement said.
Deputy Commander of the Kosovo Police for the Northern Region, Veton Eljšani, confirmed to the KoSSev portal that the inspectorate had taken a statement from Rašković at the hospital and that the medical documentation is expected to be collected.
