Meta Platforms, the owner of WhatsApp, finally fulfilled a long-awaited user request on July 29, 2026, it is now possible to make and receive audio and video calls directly in a web browser. Until now, these capabilities were only available in the mobile app and the standalone desktop application, but support has now been extended to the web interface, according to reports from specialized portals.

Calls Without Installations

As reported by Tportal, a Calls tab appears in the WhatsApp web interface with a complete call history and favorite contacts. Additionally, reactions, screen sharing, and group calls are available, just like in the native apps. All calls are protected with end-to-end encryption and have no time limits or additional costs, emphasizes Klix.ba. MacRumors highlights that web calls will be especially welcome for those using work computers where installing additional programs is not possible.

Call Transfer and Waiting Room for Group Calls

Among the new features is the ability to transfer an active call from one device to another without interrupting the connection (Call Transfer). For example, a call received on your computer or web browser can be continued on your smartphone and vice versa. Additionally, when creating a group call link with the "Require approval to join" option enabled, participants first enter a waiting room, and the host approves them when ready. The Noise Suppression feature removes background noise and ensures clearer sound, while QuickHD allows video calls to display in high resolution from the first few seconds, without the previous short adjustment period.

Usernames and Reservations

Tech Crunch, as reported by Croatian media, notes that WhatsApp recently opened reservations for usernames. Once this option is fully rolled out, users will be able to call others using their own username across different platforms, without exchanging phone numbers.

WhatsApp stated that the new features will be "available to everyone soon."

Availability in Croatia

Although the news does not have a direct national component, this is a global update that also includes Croatian WhatsApp users. The new calling, screen sharing, and waiting room options could ease everyday communication, whether personal or business, without the need for additional tools.
