Woody Harrelson continued his time in Sarajevo on Wednesday, August 19. A day after being presented with the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo at the 32nd Sarajevo Film Festival, the Hollywood actor took a ride on the city's cable car and visited Trebević, the mountain overlooking the city that is a must-visit spot for many looking to escape the urban hustle and enjoy nature.

The legendary actor was accompanied during his visit to Trebević by Sarajevo Mayor Samir Avdić. Harrelson, known for numerous film and television roles, thus had the opportunity to see Sarajevo from a different perspective, enjoying panoramic views of the city from the cable car.

Honorary Heart and Return After Nearly 30 Years

Harrelson has been in Sarajevo since Monday, where he took part in various informal gatherings, held a masterclass, and walked the red carpet. The Honorary Heart of Sarajevo was presented to him on Tuesday evening at the Metalac Summer Cinema, after which he watched the film "Welcome to Sarajevo" with the audience.

The film, directed by British filmmaker Michael Winterbottom in 1997, stars Harrelson alongside Goran Višnjić, Stephen Dillane, and Marisa Tomei. It was also screened at the Coca-Cola Summer Cinema, and Harrelson returned to the city nearly 30 years after filming.

"This Is the Most Significant Recognition for Me"

Speaking about his return, Harrelson compared the city as he found it during filming with today's Sarajevo. "Back then we had a curfew and the city was much emptier. Now you can barely walk down the street because of all the people. The city is alive, bustling, and it's incredible to see that metamorphosis. It's really nice to be back," he said.

He also recalled the people he met during filming. "The people were so warm, kind, and genuinely funny. You might not expect humor after everything that happened, but I guess humor was one of the things that helped people keep going," he added.

After Sarajevo Film Festival director Jovan Marjanović presented him with the award, Harrelson did not hide his emotions. "I'll be honest with you, this is the most significant recognition I've received," he stated.

A Special Encounter on the Red Carpet

Harrelson appeared on the red carpet in a casual outfit, greeted by a big round of applause from the audience. Among the many regional faces was actress Ana Uršula Najev, as well as Emira Nušević Nuhić, who as a ten-year-old girl acted in the film "Welcome to Sarajevo."

At the time, Emira was a fourth-grade student at the "Fatima Gunić" Elementary School, and the film crew that came to the school looking for a girl for Winterbottom's film chose her.
