The Road to Rijeka via the Cataleya Indoor Cup

The journey to the top began last season when the "City Kids" won the Cataleya Indoor Cup, securing their spot in the national championship. Other teams qualified through regional tournaments held in their respective counties.

Nine teams from various Croatian counties competed in Rijeka, divided into two groups. In Group A, Zadarnova played four matches: they triumphed over NK Slavonija Požega (3:2), NK Mladost Prelog (4:0), and Atomski Mravi (1:0), with their only loss coming against Istra 1961 (2:0).

A Semifinal and Final for the History Books

Despite the loss in the final group match, Zadarnova advanced to the semifinals, where they beat Split's Mertojak 2:0. In the final, they faced HNK Vukovar 1991, the Group B winners, but the young Zadar side was convincing, winning 3:1.

This year's 30th season of the Youth Sports Games brought together more than 138,000 children and young people, with Rijeka hosting over 2,500 finalists. Special emphasis was placed on education, with players participating in a mental hygiene workshop.

The unique sporting gathering continues next week when the Zadar team travels to Split for the International Finals, where they will face teams from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Slovenia, Ukraine, and North Macedonia.
