With 4.87 million overnight stays, it ranked fourth among Croatian regions, and Vir was the second most successful destination in the country, right behind Rovinj.
Zadar County entered the peak of the tourist season with a positive result. In July, the area recorded 576,005 arrivals and 4,870,547 overnight stays, which is 0.82 percent more than in the same month last year, according to a report by Antena Zadar. This result brought the county back to fourth place among Croatian tourist regions.
Its significance for national tourism is evident from the fact that in July it accounted for 16.5 percent of all overnight stays in Croatia, meaning nearly one in six July overnight stays occurred in this area.
Domestic tourists gave an additional boost to this year's results. Traffic from domestic guests in July increased by three percent, while the number of foreign guests remained almost the same as last year.
We are satisfied with the July figures, especially given the challenges of today's tourism market and more cautious travel decision-making. The growth of the domestic market and the stable number of foreign guests show that Zadar County maintains high recognition and attractiveness, said Vanja Čvrljak, director of the Zadar County Tourist Board, for Antena Zadar.
The positive trend is also visible across the entire year so far. In the first seven months, 1,250,961 arrivals and 8,259,134 overnight stays were recorded. The number of overnight stays increased by approximately 0.74 percent compared to the same period last year.
Domestic guests recorded growth of more than four percent, while foreign markets saw a very slight decline of 0.39 percent. Thanks to the stronger domestic market, total traffic remained above last year's level.
The largest individual result in July was achieved by Vir, with 925,696 overnight stays recorded. This made Vir the second most successful destination in Croatia, right after Rovinj. Domestic guests accounted for about 445,000 overnight stays, once again confirming the island's great popularity in the domestic market.
In addition to Vir, Zadar, Biograd na Moru, Pag, Pakoštane, and many other coastal and island towns contribute significantly to the county's results. The diversity of the offer allows for attracting both domestic and foreign guests, families, sailors, urban tourism enthusiasts, and those seeking an active holiday and natural beauty.
Our greatest strength is precisely our diversity. Zadar County is like a natural park of the entire Adriatic because guests can enjoy the sea and islands, an active holiday near national parks and nature parks, cultural heritage, and authentic gastronomy all in a small area. The Ravni Kotari region adds special value, with great potential for developing organic food and beverage production. Such a combination of coast, islands, mountains, protected nature, and fertile hinterland is rarely found anywhere, and no one can match us here. We believe that such an offer, along with cooperation between the tourism sector and local communities, will bring good results for the rest of the season, Čvrljak concludes.
With more than 8.25 million overnight stays in the first seven months, Zadar County has a solid foundation for the rest of the year. If positive trends continue in August and the post-season, this year's result could surpass last year's 15.5 million overnight stays.
