A woman from Zadar had an unpleasant surprise when she left her car in a restaurant parking lot while attending a wedding. Although the vehicle was properly locked, upon her return she discovered that cash from an envelope and a wallet had been stolen from inside. She decided to share her experience on social media to warn others.

"At first I thought I had lost the money myself"

The post appeared in the Facebook group Mame iz Zadra on August 11, 2026. The author describes how she initially didn't even think of theft. "At first I thought I had lost the money myself, but then I realized there was no money in the wallet that was in the car either," she wrote. Only then did it become clear to her that it was a break-in.

A warning to all wedding guests

In her message, she specifically appealed to women attending wedding celebrations. "Dear moms, I would like to draw your attention to not leaving envelopes in the car when you go to a wedding, because cash is being systematically stolen from envelopes," the post reads. She emphasizes that the fact the car was locked was clearly not sufficient protection.

Police received surveillance camera footage

The case did not end with just a warning on social media. According to the author, everything was reported to the police, who were also given surveillance footage. "I reported everything to the police, and they also received the video camera footage," her post states. "It was reported to the police and the footage was handed over because our car is under video surveillance, but don't make the same mistake we did," she added in the same Facebook message.

Her experience serves as a clear warning to all citizens to be especially careful with money, envelopes, and other valuables left in parked vehicles, even when they are locked.
