The median salary is 1,500 euros, and Zagreb's average is 206 euros above the Croatian average. The highest earnings are in the oil sector, while the lowest are in clothing manufacturing.
The average monthly net salary paid to employees in legal entities in the City of Zagreb for May 2026 was 1,758 euros, the City Statistical Office announced on Wednesday. Compared to April, this represents a decrease of 1.3 percent, but compared to May last year, salaries have increased by 6.4 percent.
The median net salary for May this year was 1,500 euros. This means that half of employed Zagreb residents received less, and half received more than this amount on their accounts.
The average monthly net salary at the national level in Croatia for the same month was 1,552 euros. Thus, Zagreb's average was higher by 206 euros, or about 13.3 percent.
According to data from the City Office for Economy, Environmental Sustainability, and Strategic Planning, the highest average net salary in May was paid in the extraction of crude petroleum and natural gas, amounting to 2,598 euros. At the opposite end of the scale is the manufacture of wearing apparel, where the average net salary was 1,019 euros.
The average monthly gross salary in Zagreb's legal entities for May 2026 was 2,528 euros. This is a decrease of 1.9 percent compared to April this year, but also an increase of seven percent compared to May 2025.
