Summary
  • Zagreb residents on Reddit complain about loud engines waking them in the middle of the night.
  • Noise exceeds 100 decibels, and some residents have been suffering from the problem for over two years.
  • Reports to the police and the Zagreb Police Department have yielded no results, so cameras are mentioned as a possible solution.
  • One motorcyclist describes such riders as 'just a bunch of posers' and says there is no solution.

A Zagreb resident took to Reddit to ask how to put an end to loud engines that wake entire apartments in the middle of the night. His post, started by user AdditionalShallot875, opened up a discussion about a problem that, as it turned out, plagues many other citizens as well.

Noise That Wakes Entire Families

The post's author described how he is often awakened in the late-night hours by engine noise that, as he pointed out, exceeds the permitted level, as does the speed. "The whole apartment woke up; I can only imagine what it's like for families with a baby. They have to get up and put the child back to sleep all over again because of some idiot's whim. How do we put an end to this? Call the police, ask the city to install cameras, noise control on motorcycles? What should we do?" he asked other Zagreb residents.

From Triple-Glazed Windows to Police Reports

One commenter offered a pessimistic response. "Same problem, and unfortunately, nothing works. I called the police, filed reports... A waste of energy. In the end, I installed triple-glazed windows. And it's better. But noise over 100 decibels would only be stopped by a bunker. I don't know if other neighbors complain, but I do. I asked a few people around me, all retirees, and they all think-well, it's okay, they only pass by sometimes. But it's like machine-gun fire going under the apartment," he wrote. "Unfortunately, the only thing you can do is move away," he added.

More Than Two Years of Problems

Another Zagreb resident, who has been dealing with the same issue for over two years, also spoke up. He sees a possible solution in installing cameras. "I've had the same problem for over two years. Try sending an email to the Zagreb Police Department every month. Good luck. I live for the day when everything is put under cameras. I'm extremely against it, but unfortunately, it seems to me that it's the only way to stop a minority of people from harassing the majority of relatively normal fellow citizens," he recounted.

Motorcyclist: 'Just a Bunch of Posers'

A Zagreb resident who also rides a motorcycle chimed in. "As someone who rides a motorcycle, I get annoyed by those guys, especially the ones who, when you're sitting somewhere for coffee, you see them pass by the same street five times, revving the engine so everyone notices them. They ride motorcycles because they're just a bunch of posers. Unfortunately, there's no solution," he emphasized.
