The City of Zagreb has announced the long-awaited completion of works and the restoration of regular traffic on a section of Slavonska Avenue near Savska Road, as well as the full reopening of the renovated Prilaz Gjure Deželića street.

According to the official statement from the City of Zagreb, traffic for motor vehicles and public transport buses on the disputed section of Slavonska Avenue will be restored on Saturday at 8:00 AM. This comes after extensive works to remove the remains of the Vjesnik building and repair the sidewalks on the upper level of the road.

What was done on Slavonska Avenue

The works included repairing the sidewalks and manhole covers where depressions had formed. Horizontal road markings were renewed, and side drainage channels were cleaned. Most importantly for daily commuters, with the completion of works in the Vjesnik area, regular traffic flow will be restored as it was before the Vjesnik building fire, including the reactivation of the Vjesnik bus stop.

Prilaz Gjure Deželića Reopens

Earlier the same day, at exactly 4:00 AM, Prilaz Gjure Deželića will also open to all traffic, specifically the section from Trg Vladka Mačeka to Primorska Street. The works on this section included full-width asphalt paving of the roadway, renewal of horizontal road markings, and replacement of worn-out utility covers.

The total value of the works on the roadway of Prilaz Gjure Deželića amounts to €268,000. The project was financed under the Communal Activities Plan of the Lower Town City District Council for 2026, and was implemented at the proposal of the local committee "Petar Zrinski." As stated by the City of Zagreb, the goal was to improve the condition of the roadway and ensure safer traffic for all participants.
