The Split-Dalmatia Police Department has issued detailed instructions for drivers and pilgrims ahead of the Feast of the Assumption. Due to the expected arrival of several thousand people, temporary traffic regulations will be in effect, most notably affecting drivers on the old Solin-Klis road.
The key change concerns county road ŽC 6253, better known as the old Solin-Klis road. Traffic on this stretch will be completely banned for all vehicles except residents on two nights:
The ban takes effect at 8 PM and will remain in place as long as necessary. During this time, traffic will be diverted to the D1 state road or the Solin-Klis expressway.
According to police estimates, the largest wave of pilgrims will come from the direction of Split and Solin, via the old Solin-Klis road, then through Dugopolje, Križice, Dicmo, and Brnaze toward Sinj. However, this is not the only route, worshippers will also arrive from Imotski (D60 road), Vrlika (D1), Bosnia and Herzegovina (D219), Muć (D56 via Sutina), and Šestanovac (via Blato na Cetini, Nova Sela, and Ugljane).
Therefore, all transit drivers are urged to use alternative routes on these days. In particular, it is recommended to avoid traveling on the D1 state road through the town of Sinj on the feast day itself, August 15, 2026.
The police have also issued a series of safety recommendations. Drivers are urged to exercise caution, drive at reduced speeds, and follow the instructions of police officers on the ground. Pilgrims, on the other hand, are strictly forbidden from walking on the A1 motorway and the Solin-Križice expressway.
Whenever possible, pedestrians should walk off the roadway or along its left edge, in single file. Exceptionally, they may walk on the right edge only when it is safer, such as on blind curves. Additionally, it is recommended to wear lighter clothing and use reflective elements such as vests or flashlights.
Police officers will be present on all pilgrim routes throughout the night, managing traffic and taking measures to prevent the most serious traffic violations, all with the goal of ensuring the celebration proceeds safely.
