The quality and safety of drinking water on the island of Rab is currently in the public spotlight. The main reason for Ivica Lukanović's working visit to Rab, the Prefect of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, was precisely this topic, during which he met with representatives of county institutions, as reported by Kanal Ri.
Prefect Lukanović confirmed that new water samples will be taken for analysis as early as tomorrow to ensure the highest possible safety for all residents and visitors to the island. Official information on its quality will be made public in seven days.
Prefect's Optimistic Message
"I am optimistic and believe that the quality of drinking water will remain good, and that the waste issue in Lika will be resolved appropriately. In this way, we will ensure a stable and high-quality drinking water system for all citizens of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County," said Prefect Lukanović.
Enhanced Monitoring Due to Situation in Lika
The ecological situation and health safety were discussed in more detail at a meeting with epidemiologist Daniela Glažar-Ivče, head of the Rab branch of the Teaching Institute of Public Health of PGŽ. During the visit, the Prefect familiarized himself with the Institute's work on the island, where it was highlighted that the sea on Rab is of excellent quality, and official data so far confirm that the drinking water is also completely safe.
However, given the seriousness of the waste problem in nearby Lika, monitoring has been intensified. Instead of the previous twice a year, detailed analyses for heavy metals and hazardous PFAS compounds will now be conducted every month.
The Prefect also used his stay on the island to tour other projects important for the daily lives of islanders.
