The shipment arrived at the border customs office at the Airport and Post Office, and the case has been taken over by the Ministry of the Interior, which is conducting a criminal investigation.
Customs officers at the border customs office of the Airport and Post Office flagged a suspicious courier shipment arriving from Canada. The declaration stated that the package contained women's handbags and wallets, but a thorough inspection revealed a completely different content.
Instead of fashion accessories, customs officers found a single item of unknown content wrapped in black foil. Upon opening, it was determined to be a narcotic drug of the marijuana type, weighing a total of 10.54 kilograms.
"The inspection of the shipment revealed that it did not contain the declared goods, but rather one item of unknown content, wrapped in black foil. A detailed examination determined that it was a narcotic drug of the marijuana type, with a total weight of 10.54 kilograms," the Customs Administration announced.
Following the discovery, the package was handed over to officers of the Ministry of the Interior (MUP). According to information from the Customs Administration, a criminal investigation is underway and covers both the sender and the recipient of the shipment.
This is not the first time customs officers have intercepted shipments with falsified documentation, but the quantity of over 10 kilograms of marijuana represents a significant blow to the smuggling chain that attempted to use international postal traffic to bring drugs into Croatia.
