Documentary film "Yugo ide u Ameriku", directed by Filip Grujić and Aleksa Borković, begins its theatrical release in Croatia on August 17, 2026, reports HRT Magazin. The Serbian-Croatian co-production, distributed by Restart label, had its world premiere in March 2026 at the CPH International Documentary Film Festival in Copenhagen, and in May it opened Beldocs in Belgrade, where it won the Audience Award for Best European Documentary Film.
This road documentary, as HRT Magazin reports, follows a group of protagonists born in the 1990s in Serbia. Over the course of one summer, they travel from New York to Los Angeles in a Yugo car, 33 years after the last Yugo was imported into the United States. The journey spans 23 U.S. states and over 10,000 kilometers, and the film simultaneously explores nostalgia, growing up, and the search for identity.
The film had its Croatian premiere at the Pula Film Festival to excellent reviews, and its regional premiere was held out of competition in the documentary program of the Sarajevo Film Festival. The strength of the story and visual stamp earned it notable status even before its regular distribution.
Distribution begins in Dalmatia as part of Kino Mediteran, on August 17 in Split, and then moves to Supetar on Brač, Šibenik, Zadar, Hvar, Jelsa, and Bol on Brač. August 26 marks the Zagreb premiere at the Tuškanac Summer Stage, and a day later, August 27, the film arrives at Kino Edison in Karlovac. Directors Filip Grujić and Aleksa Borković will be present at all these screenings.
Filip Grujić is a writer, dramaturge, and assistant at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade, while Aleksa Borković is a cinematographer and director of music videos, feature films, and documentaries. The film is produced by Naked from Serbia, with co-producers Restart from Croatia, Obitelj Šolak, United Media, and Filip Grujić himself.

At 8:30 PM, the documentary "My Dad's Lessons" by director Dalija Dozet will be screened. This film essay explores her relationship with her deceased father, based on hundreds of hours of recorded material, from family videos and shots of Osijek from the 1980s to travel footage. The screening will also serve as the first presentation of the program for the 21st edition of the DOKUart Festival, which this year takes place from October 3 to 9, 2026, in Bjelovar.
