New demonstration from Figure showcases significant progress in humanoid robot mobility and balance, tackling one of robotics' tougher challenges.
Figure has released footage showing its humanoid robot, Figure 03, climbing a ladder completely autonomously. The video was shared on X on August 4, 2026, by company founder Brett Adcock, and depicts the robot performing this complex task without any visible human assistance or remote control.
Climbing ladders is considered extremely demanding for humanoid robots because it requires precise coordination of arms and legs, constant balance adjustments, and accurate perception of the environment. Successfully executing this action suggests significant improvements in whole-body control and real-time decision-making.
The demonstration has drawn attention from AI researchers, with some describing it as "good progress" in humanoid robotics. While the footage clearly shows the robot's capability, Figure has not disclosed detailed technical specifications of the system behind this performance, and the demonstration has not been independently verified.
This progress comes shortly after Figure introduced a major upgrade to its Helix System 0 (S0) AI model. The new system gives robots the ability to combine visual perception with whole-body motion control. While the earlier system relied solely on proprioception, the updated S0 model uses built-in stereo cameras to build a real-time three-dimensional view of the environment, enabling more precise movement and better balance on challenging surfaces.
The company states that the model was trained using reinforcement learning in simulations, and the learned behaviors transfer directly to real robots without additional calibration. This addresses a long-standing challenge in robotics known as "sim-to-real."
At the same time, Figure is also achieving production milestones. The company has ramped up production of the Figure 03 model from one robot per day to one unit every hour, and has delivered more than 350 robots to date.
In a separate post, Adcock expressed his clear stance on the future of robotics. "Wheeled robots are a complete dead end," he wrote on X, reiterating his belief that humanoid robots with legs are better suited for environments built for humans, such as factories, warehouses, offices, and homes.
