Police officers in Slavonski Brod and Osijek have completed criminal investigations into two separate fraud cases, identifying suspects who caused damages exceeding 23,000 euros to a company and 2,300 euros to an 88-year-old woman from Osijek.
The Brod-Posavina Police Department announced on August 5, 2026, that it had completed a criminal investigation into a 37-year-old man suspected of fraud in business operations. According to established facts, as the responsible person of a company within the jurisdiction of that police department, he had contracted the sale of agricultural supplies to another company during the past year.
After the buyer paid the agreed amount, the 37-year-old failed to deliver the goods or refund the money. This caused material damage to the affected company in the amount exceeding 23,000.00 euros. A special report will be submitted against the suspect to the Municipal State Attorney's Office in Slavonski Brod as a supplement to the criminal complaint.
On the same day, police officers from the Second Police Station in Osijek announced the results of an investigation into fraud against an 88-year-old woman from Osijek. They established reasonable suspicion that three men, aged 38, 35, and 68, from the Zagreb and Virovitica-Podravina counties, committed this criminal offense.
According to the reconstruction of events, an unknown person called the woman, falsely presenting themselves as a police officer. She was told that she had given someone 50 euros to go to a store, and that the banknote was counterfeit. While the conversation was still ongoing, a man arrived at the victim's address, to whom she handed over 23 banknotes of 100 euros each for a supposed "check" of the banknotes. A fake receipt was issued for the money handed over.
Criminal complaints will be filed against the three suspects with the Municipal State Attorney's Office in Osijek.
