Liverpool have formally opened talks with Paris Saint-Germain over the signing of Bradley Barcola, one of the most sought-after wingers in Europe. According to sources in France and England, the English club is prepared to spend over €100 million on the transfer, but the two sides remain far apart on a final agreement.
The Reds have already agreed a deal to bring in Victor Muñoz from Osasuna for around €40 million, and their focus has now shifted to Barcola. The change in priorities came after Yan Diomandé, who was the club's first choice, decided to join Real Madrid.
According to Football Insider, PSG have no intention of accepting Liverpool's first formal bid. The reason is a significant gap in the valuation of the player. PSG are asking for around €140 million for the 22-year-old French international, while Liverpool have offered less than €115 million, with add-ons. Other sources cite slightly different figures, PSG are reportedly seeking around £120 million, while Liverpool want to close the deal for under £100 million, with certain bonuses.
Despite the difference in valuation, Anfield officials are not giving up on their plan. Barcola is one of the club's key targets in this transfer window, and the Reds' management believes a deal could still be reached.
Optimism at Liverpool is further boosted by the player's stance. According to reports, Barcola is willing to move to Anfield and currently has no plans to extend his contract with PSG, which could ease negotiations between the clubs. An additional opportunity for his departure could arise if PSG manage to sign Maghnes Akliouche from Monaco, who has been linked with the Parisian club for some time.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims that talks between the clubs should continue in the coming days. This could bring negotiations over one of the biggest transfers of the summer into a decisive, albeit still uncertain, phase.
Meanwhile, Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has hinted that his club is also looking for attacking reinforcements. "It will depend on the team, we have to wait. I have a lot of confidence in Deco, and we are aware that we must react, but it also depends on Ferran. We'll see what happens," Flick said after the team's preparations in England.
Ferran Torres, for his part, has not ruled out leaving the club. While at a promotional event in the United States, he told NBC: "At this moment, I have a contract with Barcelona. But honestly, in football, nobody knows what can happen."
Flick also praised the young players from Barcelona's academy. "Tunkara and Goren have really surprised me during these preparations. They have great quality, and they show it clearly," he said, singling out Xavi Espart: "He has confirmed, both in matches like against Birmingham and in training, that he is a top-level player."
