Preparations for the central celebration of the 31st anniversary of the military-police operation Storm in Knin have been completed. The program begins as early as 6:30 AM with a reveille that will pass through the city streets, and the Minister of Veterans' Affairs, Tomo Medved, sent a strong message to families still searching for their loved ones.

"I believe that Croatia, as it has over the past 30 years, will mark this great day with dignity, in memory and gratitude to Croatian veterans," Medved said in an interview with Nova TV journalist Ivan Krznarić, as reported by dnevnik.hr.

Promise to Families of the Missing

The Minister particularly highlighted the suffering of families whose members are still missing. "All the horrors we experienced in the Homeland War befell many families. And many families today, as then, are enduring every day with difficulty, especially this day. I want to encourage them with the message that we will never stop searching for their fate until we find the last missing person from the Homeland War," Medved said.

This statement comes ahead of the celebration of Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day and the Day of Croatian Veterans, traditionally held on August 5, 2026.

Gratitude to Veterans and a Message of Unity

In addition to reflecting on Operation Storm, Medved emphasized that the celebration will commemorate all battles from the Homeland War, with a focus on the defense of 1991. "And from here in Knin, we will send messages of gratitude to all Croatian veterans with a clear message of what our Government, what the Republic of Croatia, is doing today for Croatia, relying on all those values built during the Homeland War, which is our unity," the Minister said.

He called on all citizens who are able to come to Knin and celebrate the victory with dignity. Those who cannot travel were invited to do so in their own communities.
