Driver with 1.46 per mille blood alcohol level ignored temporary traffic regulation and entered a forbidden lane, crashing into a trench. Police sought a €2,310 fine and a two-month driving ban, but the court was more lenient.
On Sunday morning in Trešnjevka, a 23-year-old caused a traffic accident while driving under the influence of alcohol, after which misdemeanor proceedings were initiated against him before the Municipal Misdemeanor Court in Zagreb. According to the report from the Zagreb Police Department, the young man was driving a passenger car with 1.46 per mille of alcohol in his system when he lost control of the vehicle around 5:10 AM on Savska Road.
Upon reaching the zone of temporary traffic regulation, the 23-year-old drove past the detour sign. Instead of continuing along the lane designated for going straight and turning right, he moved into the lane reserved for public transport vehicles. Due to speed not adjusted to road conditions, he failed to stop in time and drove his car into a trench on the roadway, specifically into the excavated section next to the tram tracks.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the accident, and only material damage was caused. After the crash, the driver was immediately arrested and held in a special room until the effects of alcohol wore off. Once sober, he was brought before the Municipal Misdemeanor Court in Zagreb, where misdemeanor proceedings were initiated against him.
The police, in their indictment proposal, sought a fine of €2,310 and a two-month driving ban for B-category vehicles. The Municipal Misdemeanor Court in Zagreb found the 23-year-old guilty but imposed a somewhat lighter sanction. The driver will have to pay €980 and has been given a one-month driving ban for B-category motor vehicles.
