Drunk Repeat Offender Causes Crash Near Novska

Over the past few days, two serious traffic accidents have been recorded on Croatian roads. In Brodski Drenovac, a car ended up in the Orljava River, while near Novska, an intoxicated driver with a prior record caused a collision with material damage.
On Monday, August 4, 2026, in the village of Brodski Drenovac near Požega, a passenger car veered off the road and plunged into the Orljava River. According to the Požega-Slavonia Police Department, one person sustained injuries in the incident.
The injured individual was transported by an emergency medical team to the Požega General County Hospital. Police have announced that an investigation will determine the exact circumstances and what led to this traffic accident.
Just two days earlier, on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at around 12:10 p.m., a traffic accident with material damage occurred in the Novska area, in the village of Bročice near the roundabout. The cause was a 45-year-old man driving a car with Kutina license plates while having a blood alcohol level of 2.12 per mille.
As he failed to stay in the center of the marked traffic lane, his vehicle left the roadway and struck a concrete barrier and a traffic sign placed before the entrance to the roundabout. Since he is a repeat traffic offender, police arrested him and brought him before the competent Municipal Misdemeanor Court.
The police proposed a sentence of 15 days in jail, a fine of 160 euros, and a protective measure banning him from driving B-category vehicles for six months. The court found the driver guilty but imposed a lighter jail sentence of 8 days, while the fine of 160 euros and the six-month driving ban remained unchanged.
