Opposition councilor calls out Split mayor for shifting responsibility for water supply issues onto citizens, while reminding him of his tenure at Vodovod i kanalizacija.
In the latest political clash over the pressing issue of water supply in Split, opposition councilor Skoko sharply criticized Mayor Šuta. The main grievance concerns the mayor's shifting of blame for water difficulties onto the city's oldest residents.
"According to him, the grandparents who water their gardens are to blame for the water supply problems," Skoko quoted the mayor's statement in his post. Skoko believes that instead of looking for a culprit among citizens, Šuta should face responsibility for the state of the water infrastructure.
Skoko also reminded Šuta of his tenure as head of the company Vodovod i kanalizacija, where he spent six years. During that period, Skoko claims, there was no progress in expanding the network. "Not a single centimeter of new water supply network in Split, including in Žrnovnica," he emphasized.
As a contrast, he highlighted the work of Šuta's successor in that position, Miroslav Delić. In just a few months after taking office, Delić, according to Skoko, initiated work on as many as 60 construction sites, including those in Žrnovnica.
Skoko further claims that Šuta, upon becoming mayor, dismissed Delić and appointed Ivica Perić in his place. The immediate consequence of this personnel change, according to him, was a sudden slowdown in the pace of work on the agglomeration project in Žrnovnica.
"The pace of work on the agglomeration in Žrnovnica suddenly slowed down. They just needed to continue working on what the Center, Ivica Puljak, and Miroslav Delić had left behind," Skoko wrote, alluding to the political options and individuals who previously managed this infrastructure project.
He concluded his critical post with a clear message to the mayor that, instead of criticizing citizens who water their gardens, he should face his own responsibility for the state of water supply in the city.
