Two traffic accidents within just a few hours, in two different cities, Sisak and Pakrac, share the same dangerous circumstance: drivers behind the wheel under the influence of alcohol. In the collision in Sisak, a child sustained minor injuries.

The Sisak-Moslavina and Požega-Slavonia Police Departments reported on the incidents that occurred on August 6, 2026. Both cases resulted in misdemeanor orders, but one, unlike the other, also left physical consequences.

A Braking Maneuver That Cost More Than Expected

The first accident occurred around 7:30 PM on Galdovačka Street in Sisak. A 22-year-old driver, who measured 0.88 promille of alcohol in his blood, was driving a car with Kutina license plates. He failed to maintain a safe following distance.

As a result, he rear-ended the vehicle in front of him, which was slowing down at that moment. Behind the wheel of that car, also with Kutina plates, was a 41-year-old woman. Two children were in the vehicle with her.

One child sustained minor injuries in the collision. The 22-year-old will face a mandatory misdemeanor order.

Reversing Maneuver with 0.91 Promille

The second incident occurred at the same time, around 7:30 PM, in Pakrac, at the intersection of Ljudevit Gaj and King Tomislav streets. A 30-year-old female driver stopped her car at the intersection and then began reversing.

During this maneuver, the rear of her vehicle struck the front of a car driven by a 23-year-old man. She measured 0.91 promille of alcohol. There were no injuries in this accident, only material damage. She will also face a misdemeanor order for violating the provisions of the Road Traffic Safety Act.

Dulled Reflexes, Real Consequences

Although the accidents occurred in different parts of the country, both highlight the ongoing problem of drunk driving. Concentrations of 0.88 and 0.91 promille significantly impair driving abilities, prolonging reaction times and compromising judgment in traffic.

In Sisak, this proved particularly dangerous. The most vulnerable road users, children, were the victims.
