In Croatia, the 'Day of 1 Euro' campaign has been revived, aiming to collect donations for four different situations where a single euro, combined with thousands of others, can bring about real change. It is organized by Bruno Lerotić and Team Nenormalni, with the central message remaining "A small gesture, a big change".
This is the second edition of the campaign, held on August 19. Lerotić, a 39-year-old who has been involved in humanitarian work for 19 years, emphasized that the first campaign brought together 117,000 people and raised over 600,000 euros, making it, according to the organizers, the second-largest humanitarian campaign in Croatia. That money helped dozens of families waiting for operations, therapies, and treatments, and also initiated the renovation of six houses. "It's time to announce the second campaign with the same name and the same goal," Lerotić said ahead of the new humanitarian day.
Part of the collected funds will go towards renovating a house in Glina, damaged in the earthquake, where two girls with cerebral palsy live. The work should provide them and their family with better and safer conditions for daily life.
Help is also intended for a girl from Koprivnica suffering from the same condition. The money will be used to renovate her home and create a space for exercise, thereby establishing better conditions for regular rehabilitation.
The third direction of the campaign focuses on funding robotic and other essential therapies for children and adults who cannot afford them themselves. This involves approximately ten individuals for whom these funds would enable the continuation of recovery and progress. The continuity of rehabilitation is often crucial, but high costs present an insurmountable barrier for many.
The final portion of the collected money will be forwarded to residents of Omiš and the surrounding area who lost property or had their homes damaged in the recent fire. They face a long process of rebuilding and returning to normal life, and this assistance should ease their initial steps on that path. The organizers decided to help fire victims after the fires hit the area, although the campaign had been planned earlier. After collecting funds, volunteers will visit the affected areas, list families, and determine their actual needs to ensure aid is directed where it is most needed. They also warn citizens not to donate to unverified appeals and that before allocating aid, it is necessary to assess the actual damage, family needs, and renovation costs.
Four different stories are connected by a common need for help that can make a concrete difference. For some, it means a safer home; for others, a space for rehabilitation; for others, the possibility of continuing therapy; and for others, support after losing property and a sense of security in a fire.
The 'Day of 1 Euro' campaign is based on a simple idea: what matters is not the size of an individual donation, but what can be achieved when small gestures come together. One euro may not rebuild a house or cover therapy, but a large number of such donations can become help that changes someone's daily life and paves the way to a more secure life. That is why the message "A small gesture, a big change" is not just a slogan but also a call for solidarity. "Everything is more than zero," Lerotić said, urging everyone to donate to the account of the association Chef kuha doma (HR8324020061101283475) with the payment description DONACIJA.
