SDP city councilor Anita Bonačić Obradović issued a new statement today, telling Mayor Mato Franković that after nine years in power, it's time to talk less about political points and answer more questions about unfulfilled promises regarding the Grabovica landfill. She was reacting to the mayor's statement about Grabovica yesterday, as reported by Dubrovniknet.

In a statement carried by Dubrovnik Insider, Bonačić Obradović listed all the deadlines for closing Grabovica that have been missed: the first was in 2018, then 2020, then 2021, followed by "no later than during 2022," then the end of 2025, and now there is already talk of 2027.

Promised Five Times, Broken Five Times

"Nine years in power. Five missed deadlines. Countless promises that Grabovica would be closed," the councilor said, adding: "And I'm the one scoring political points?"

She particularly emphasized that Grabovica should have been closed eight years ago, and after that, it received four more closure deadlines, yet the landfill remains open today.

"The problem is the one who promised five times to close it and five times failed to keep his own promise."

Warning on Groundwater Pollution and Connection to Ombla

Bonačić Obradović stressed that during the mayor's term, official analyses showed heavily polluted groundwater beneath Grabovica, and instead of answering questions about what is in that water and how far the pollution has spread, he reduces the entire discussion to her "political points."

She also added that tracing has proven a hydrological connection between Grabovica and the Ombla River, and despite all the promises, the landfill remains open.

"And the problem will be the one who, if it is ever determined that this pollution reached the Ombla, will be remembered as the mayor who knew for nine years and allowed it to happen."

Response to Accusations of "Scaring Citizens"

The councilor also addressed claims that she is "scaring citizens," saying that what scares citizens is not a councilor who published official findings and asked questions, but the fact that Grabovica has not been closed even after nine years and five missed deadlines.

"And they should be especially concerned when the mayor responds to concrete questions about groundwater, PFAS, activated carbon, and nine years of missed deadlines with a story about 'political points,'" Bonačić Obradović concluded.

Finally, she told the mayor: "So, Mr. Mayor, less talk about my political points, and more answers about your unfulfilled promises."
