Anthropic has expanded its Google Workspace integration: the AI assistant can now send messages in Gmail and manage files in Google Drive, while keeping approval controls in place.
Anthropic announced on Wednesday that its AI assistant Claude can now independently send emails in Gmail and manage files in Google Drive. Previously, Claude could check incoming mail and summarize action items, but it couldn't reply to messages. The new functionality changes that limitation, reports Android Authority.
Users can ask Claude to reply to an email thread, and the AI will draft and send the response. Beyond simple replies, Claude can also forward messages, turning the Gmail integration into something closer to an assistant that operates within your inbox, rather than an AI that only summarizes messages or writes suggested replies.
In Google Drive, Claude can now search for and retrieve files, share them, move them, or delete them, according to Android Authority. The full list of expanded capabilities is available on Claude's support page.
According to Tportal, users still control whether Claude needs permission before sending messages. Approval remains the default, and users can choose whether they want to review the message before sending or allow Claude to send it automatically. Team and enterprise administrators can decide whether members are allowed to let these actions happen without repeated approval.
The important change is that Claude no longer has to stop and wait for manual approval of each outgoing message when the appropriate setting is enabled. As Digital Trends writes, Claude's Gmail capabilities are currently limited to paid subscriptions, and approval settings vary depending on the account type.
In a separate post on X, Anthropic announced that Claude Cowork is now available on mobile and web apps for all paid plans. Users can now track Cowork directly on their smartphones, instead of relying solely on the Claude desktop app.
The company also announced that it is extending the increased weekly limit for Claude Code by 50 percent until August 31. Previously, it was announced that the increased limits would be in effect until August 19 for all Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise users.
