  • It is the world's first aircraft of this type to feature the Star Alliance livery from the start.

Croatia Airlines' fleet has gained another next-generation aircraft. On Wednesday, July 29, 2026, the tenth Airbus A220 landed directly from the Airbus factory in Mirabel, Canada, the national carrier announced. It is an A220-300 model, registration 9A-CAS, named 'Velika Gorica', and represents a world first: it is the first aircraft of its type to have been painted from the outset in the distinctive livery of the Star Alliance.

According to information reported by HRT, Index.hr and Poslovni dnevnik, this is the third of a total of seven Airbus A220s that Croatia Airlines is expected to receive during this year. The new aircraft has 149 passenger seats and is a key part of the largest fleet renewal project in the company's history.

Eight larger and two smaller A220s already delivered

So far, Croatia Airlines has taken delivery of eight A220-300 series (each with 149 seats) and two of the shorter A220-100 model, which accommodates 127 passengers. The arrival of the tenth aircraft marks the halfway point of the renewal, as the ultimate goal is 15 new aircraft by 2027.

Chairman of the Management Board Jasmin Bajić commented on the delivery: "The new generation of Airbus A220 aircraft is the cornerstone of Croatia Airlines' development, enabling us to offer passengers an even higher level of comfort and service quality, while simultaneously increasing the efficiency and sustainability of our operations, thereby directly contributing to the development of Croatian tourism and the economy in general."

What the rest of 2026 and 2027 bring

By the end of 2026, another four A220-300 aircraft are expected to join the fleet. If the pace is maintained, the total number of new aircraft received this year will reach seven, meaning that by 2027 Croatia Airlines will have 15 Airbus aircraft: 13 A220-300s and two A220-100s. This would fully complete the fleet renewal, which industry experts and management see as a turning point for operations, passenger comfort and emission reductions.
