Summary
  • Dubrovnik had 223,179 arrivals in July 2026, one percent more than last year.
  • In the first seven months, there were 763,414 arrivals and nearly 2.5 million overnight stays.
  • Mayor Franković emphasizes a focus on sustainability and reducing pressure on local residents.
  • The season's success will be seen in the autumn months, not in July's records.

In July 2026, Dubrovnik recorded 223,179 tourist arrivals and 768,549 overnight stays, confirming the stability of the tourist season despite global challenges. Compared to the same month last year, arrivals increased by one percent, while overnight stays were nearly identical to last year's result.

Growth Also in the First Seven Months

Positive trends are also visible when looking at the period from January to the end of July. During this period, the city beneath Mount Srđ recorded 763,414 arrivals and 2,475,290 overnight stays. A comparison with the same period in 2025 shows an increase of 7,622 arrivals and 11,388 more overnight stays.

Focus on Sustainability, Not Numbers

Mayor Mato Franković does not view these results as a reason for uncontrolled growth in guest numbers, but rather as confirmation of a strategic shift in destination management. The emphasis is on preserving the quality of life for local residents, who have faced the pressure of mass tourism for years, particularly from day-trippers and cruise ships.

"These figures once again confirm Dubrovnik as a successful and sustainable destination that does not pursue growth at any cost, but rather responsible tourism management and the preservation of our fellow citizens' quality of life," Franković stated.

Autumn as the Season's Key Test

Although August, according to the mayor, will be challenging, it is expected to end at last year's level. However, the real optimism comes from forecasts for the upcoming autumn. Growth in tourist traffic in September, October, and November could be a more important indicator of success than another record during the summer peak.

The strategy is clear: reduce summer crowds and spread the tourist season over a larger part of the year, while maintaining the economic benefits that tourism brings. If the autumn forecasts materialize, it will be a stronger sign of sustainable development than merely breaking records in July.
