Theater enthusiasts in Dubrovnik have eagerly awaited the return of one of the most acclaimed productions in the recent history of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival. Vojnović's "Equinox," directed by Krešimir Dolenčić, will once again come to life on the unique stage of the Posat stretching grounds from tomorrow, August 11, through Saturday, August 15, 2026. All performances, starting at 9:30 PM, are already sold out, confirming the exceptional status of this play among festival audiences.
This dramatic success, named best play two seasons ago, continues to garner accolades. Director Krešimir Dolenčić received the Croatian Actors' Award for his work, and the same award went to two of the lead actors. Zrinka Cvitešić, who plays the role of Jele, also won the prestigious Orlando Award and the Golden Studio Award for Best Female Role. Goran Višnjić, who plays Niko Marinović, also took home the Croatian Actors' Award for Best Leading Male Role.
Alongside director Dolenčić, the production features a host of distinguished artists. The creative team includes composer Stanko Juzbašić, set designer Dinka Jeričević, costume designer Leo Kulaš, lighting designer Tomislav Maglečić, sound designer Đoni Čučević, language consultant Maro Martinović, choreographer Zrinka Japunčić, stage manager Roko Grbin, assistant director Roza Jurić, and assistant set designers Marta Dolenčić and Marta Mršić. Sound is handled by operator Aljoša Reljić, and the recorded music features Vid Veljak on cello and vocals, Stanko Juzbašić on guitars, trumpet, and vocals, with Davor Rocco as music recording engineer.
An impressive cast will grace the stage. In addition to the aforementioned Zrinka Cvitešić and Goran Višnjić, the audience will see Goran Grgić as Frano Dražić, Maro Martinović as Vlaho Slijepi, Karlo Mrkša as Ivo Ledinić, Joško Ševa as the gondolier Pavo, Toni Kukuljica as Toni Perović, and Branimir Vidić as Parok. The production also features Lara Nekić as Anica, Nika Lasić as Lucija, Olivera Baljak as Kate, Perica Martinović as Marija od poste, Mirej Stanić as Mare Pendova, Maro Drobnić as Marko Vojvodić, and numerous other actors in roles of the common folk and children, including Jelicu Čučević, Ante Tonći Đurković, Luka Bokić, Toma Tolja, Roko Roca, Nikolina Krupec, Nea Martinović, Petrunjela Baće, Erin Saltarić, Nea Njirić, Eva Gluhan, Paula Knez, and Božo Petrica as the old sailor.
Krešimir Dolenčić, a full professor at the Zagreb Academy of Dramatic Art, is one of Croatia's most prominent theater directors. He graduated from the same academy and has directed drama and opera productions in theaters and festivals worldwide, in Slovenia, China, the USA, the UK, and Germany. He has a special connection to the Dubrovnik Summer Festival and has distinguished himself particularly in his work on domestic classics. He has received over thirty domestic and international awards and four decorations from the Republic of Croatia. He dedicated the production of "Equinox" to his teacher, Joško Juvančić Jupa.
