August with Two Interventions a Day

"This August has been intense, sometimes with two missions in a single day," Cigić told HRT. On Tuesday alone, two searches for missing elderly individuals were active in the county. According to him, over 80% of all missions are searches.

Rescuer Antonija Mihaljević confirmed the demanding nature of this period: "This summer has been intense." She managed to participate in many missions despite challenging terrain and high temperatures. "It's a special and indescribable feeling when you save someone's life," she added.

Foreign Nationals Lose Their Way on Dinara

Over the past weekend, rescuers intervened in the Martinove Košare area on Dinara, where two foreign nationals got lost. Earlier, a rescue operation for an injured German national, who also attempted to conquer Dinara, involved the Croatian Air Force. He was airlifted by helicopter from the accident site to Knin Hospital.

"The majority of rescue missions occur on inaccessible terrain," Cigić noted, adding that well-marked trails are crucial for safer ascents for hikers.

Who Maintains the Trails on Dinara

The Knin Mountaineering Society HPD Dinara, which manages the Brezovac Mountain Lodge, is responsible for several key sections: the trail from Guga to Brezovac, from Brezovac to the summit, from Mirkovići to the lodge, and from Brezovac to Badanj. The so-called Jogurt Trail is managed by HPK Sveti Mihovil from Šibenik.

A particular challenge is the trail from Glavaš to the summit. "The trail from Glavaš to the summit was managed by the Kyiv Sinjal society, which has ceased operations, so the Knin Society has submitted a request to the Croatian Mountaineering Association for jurisdiction over that ascent section," explained Valerija Čulina, secretary of HPD Dinara. She added that their mountain lodge is most often visited by organized groups with licensed mountain guides.
