Summary
  • Widzew's sporting director Lukasz Maslowski made it clear that Selahi will not leave the club.
  • Hajduk could not take on Selahi's salary of around €500,000 per year.
  • WhiteBIT's offer was less than one million euros annually, with a model that Hajduk rejected due to the privacy of its more than 100,000 members.

Hajduk, on Thursday, August 13, 2026, missed out on two deals that had been touted for weeks as crucial for strengthening the squad and the club's financial stability. The transfer of Selahi from Widzew seems increasingly distant from Poljud, and the partnership with WhiteBIT, represented by Ivica Pirić, is also on shaky ground.

Widzew Won't Let Selahi Go

Widzew's new sporting director, Lukasz Maslowski, made it clear that he currently does not see a scenario in which the 27-year-old midfielder would leave the club. "Regarding Selahi, at this moment I do not see the possibility of that player leaving. Quite the opposite, I believe he is a player around whom we can build this project, and I would very much like that. I will talk to the coach; I think he should stay with us and get the chance to fight for a place in the starting lineup. I consider him a valuable player, but also a valuable person," Maslowski told Tportal.

Hajduk and Widzew had been negotiating a loan, and Gonzalo Garcia, who coached Selahi at Twente, knows his abilities well. However, the Polish club made it clear in talks that Hajduk would have to cover Selahi's entire salary if they wanted a deal. According to available data, Selahi earns approximately €500,000 a year at Widzew, and his contract with the Polish side runs for another two years. Hajduk was not in a position to accept such financial terms.

Selahi joined Widzew last summer after leaving Rijeka, where he made a strong impression. He was a key player in the team that won the league title and the Croatian Cup, and Garcia would now gladly have him back in his ranks. However, after the new Widzew sporting director's statement, it seems Hajduk has little room to maneuver.

WhiteBIT Offer Below Expectations

Although there had been weeks of talk about Ivica Pirić's and WhiteBIT's offer and a possible partnership between that company and Hajduk, it seems nothing will come of it. The problem arose because Pirić's offer differed significantly from what he presented to the public. The key difference was in the total amount of money. Although Pirić mentioned amounts of several million in public, the actual annual amount was less than one million euros, with larger sums only achievable if many conditions were met.

However, an even bigger issue is the question of privacy protection. WhiteBIT wanted part of the bonus to be tied to the number of club members using their platform. Hajduk rejected such a model because it was concerned about the privacy of its more than 100,000 members. Hajduk believes that the security and privacy of its members are paramount, especially since the membership model is the "foundational pillar" of this Hajduk.

Negotiations are ongoing, but an agreement currently seems increasingly unlikely.
