The Croatian National Tourist Board (HTZ) released on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, initial indicators pointing to a strong recovery in tourism from three key markets. According to data from the eVisitor system, the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Italy are recording notable increases in arrivals and overnight stays compared to the same period last year.

Czechs Stronger Again

The biggest surprise comes from the Czech Republic, a market that had been weakening in previous years. During July 2026, the number of Czech tourist arrivals jumped by 12 percent compared to the same month last year, while overnight stays increased by 7 percent. Looking at the entire period from January to July 2026, arrivals and overnight stays from the Czech market are up by 5 percent.

Czech tourists recorded the most overnight stays in Istria, Split-Dalmatia, and Zadar counties. Among destinations, Umag, Poreč, and Medulin were the most visited.

Hungarians Steadily Growing

Positive trends are also visible among Hungarian guests. In July 2026, their arrivals increased by 8 percent, and overnight stays rose by 7 percent compared to last year. From the beginning of the year to the end of July, arrivals and overnight stays from Hungary increased by 7 percent.

Hungarians most often chose Kvarner, Istria, and Zadar County.

Italians Return, Ferragosto on the Horizon

HTZ particularly highlights the return of Italian guests after years of stagnation. In the first seven months of 2026, arrivals and overnight stays of Italian tourists increased by 2 percent compared to the same period last year. In July, their arrivals were up by 1 percent.

Further growth is expected in August, during the traditional Ferragosto period, when Italian guests make the most summer trips. Italians also favored Croatia during the pre-season, especially for short weekend trips to Istria and Kvarner.
