The Teaching Institute for Public Health of the Istrian County announced on Tuesday the results of the sixth seawater quality survey at Istrian beaches, and they are once again more than good. Out of a total of 222 measuring points, as many as 98.2 percent of samples were rated as excellent, confirming Istria's status as a destination with crystal-clear sea.

Sampling was conducted from July 28 to August 6, 2026, along the entire coast of the Istrian County, from Savudrija in the north to Brestova in the east. During this period, sea temperatures ranged between 24 and 29 degrees Celsius, while air temperatures ranged from 24 to 33 degrees.

Only Four Locations Without the Highest Rating

According to individual results of microbiological indicator testing, 218 measuring points recorded excellent bathing water quality. Good quality was recorded at only one location, namely in Ližnjan at Matićev Pisak beach, below the hotel. This represents just 0.5 percent of the total number of samples.

Satisfactory seawater quality, which is marked in yellow on cartographic displays, was found at three measuring points, or 1.4 percent of samples. These are locations at the Kažela, FKK campsite in Medulin, Tarska vala in the Tar-Vabriga area, and the beach below the Hotel Molindrio in Poreč.

What Is Monitored During Testing

During seawater quality testing, in accordance with the Regulation, samples are analyzed for intestinal enterococci and the bacterium Escherichia coli as key microbiological indicators of pollution. In addition, meteorological conditions, sea temperature and salinity, as well as any visible pollution, are recorded during each sampling.

Based on the results of individual sampling, seawater is classified into three categories: excellent (blue label), good (green label), and satisfactory (yellow label). All individual test results are publicly available through the web application of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Green Transition.
