Croatian actress Jelena Perčin shared a series of candid reflections on parenting and family life with the public. In the 22nd episode of the podcast "Mame kod Lane," hosted by Lana Gojak Bajt, she spoke about the challenges of motherhood, going through a divorce, and her parenting methods.

Shocking Experience at the Checkout

She particularly recalled an uncomfortable situation that caught her off guard when her daughter Lota was little. "I had an incident with a woman who, at the store checkout, took the pacifier out of Lota's mouth and said, 'You shouldn't be using a pacifier anymore. Did you hear that, mom?'" Perčin recounted on the podcast.

This move by the unknown woman clearly shocked the actress, who used the anecdote to illustrate the unsolicited comments and actions parents often encounter in public.

Divorce Isn't the End of the World

Jelena Perčin is a mother of three. From her first marriage to Kristijan Babić, she has a daughter, Lota, and in her second marriage to actor Momčilo Otašević, she had daughter Maša and son Jakša. She openly discussed her views on divorce.

"I think it's much worse to be in a bad marriage than to go through a divorce," she stated. She added that she has never told her children that she and their father are no longer together because they don't love each other. "I've never told Lota, and now not Maša or Jakša, that mom and dad are no longer together because they don't love each other. That would be something terrible to say," she explained her approach.

Freedom Under the Parental Roof

Perčin also shared her perspective on raising teenagers, especially now that her eldest daughter Lota is fourteen. She believes it's crucial to give children a sense of security and freedom within their own home.

"It's much healthier for Lota to have the freedom to come to me and introduce me to her boyfriend. To have them at our house, rather than on a bench in the park in winter or in some cafés, which are much more inappropriate for her age at fourteen and where she's exposed to alcohol, tobacco, and everything else," the actress said.

Motherhood as Sacrifice

She also reflected on the very essence of motherhood, describing it as a continuous act of self-denial. "Certain periods in life require some sacrifice. Motherhood is a form of sacrifice, regardless of its beauty, because your time is never truly yours again," concluded Jelena Perčin.
