First String Instrument Workshop at the Church of Our Lady of Karmen

Just three days earlier, on Saturday, July 25, 2026, the Ćatić musical family held the first concert in the early Baroque Church of Our Lady of Karmen in Dubrovnik's Karmen district. This performance opened the workshop for making string instruments, the first of its kind in Dubrovnik. According to Dubrovnik Insider, the seven children of the Ćatić family performed solo pieces with piano accompaniment by their mother Luca, as well as chamber ensembles.

The project is being realized with the support of the Diocese of Dubrovnik and the Cathedral Parish of the Assumption. The Church of Our Lady of Karmen had not been in use for decades, but it is gradually being restored. The father of the family, Željko Ćatić, has been making instruments for years, and the new space is becoming a unique place in Dubrovnik and Croatia.

The cathedral parish priest, don Marin Lučić, expressed satisfaction with the collaboration, highlighting the musical talents of the children and the patience with which Željko crafts the instruments. The exhibition setup and interactive digital content on string instrument making were designed by Lea Đurović Ruso (Proto-Arch), Made Milićević, and Željko Ćatić. The workshop is located above the exhibition space, and guided tours, thematic workshops, and regular concerts are planned.
