"Furthermore, it was established that the electric scooter does not meet the technical requirements for a personal mobility device, and it was temporarily seized in accordance with legal regulations. The driver was arrested on suspicion of committing a series of offenses under the Schengen Borders Code, the Act on Combating Drug Abuse, and the Road Traffic Safety Act, and was brought to the Municipal Court in Metković," the Dubrovnik-Neretva Police Department announced.

Police Warn E-Scooter Riders

The police also issued a warning to citizens who operate electric scooters and other personal mobility devices. "The law clearly stipulates that these vehicles must not exceed a speed of 25 kilometers per hour on a flat road. The engine displacement must not exceed 25 cubic centimeters, and the continuous power of the electric motor must not exceed 0.6 kilowatts."

"All vehicles with greater power or speed are not classified as personal mobility devices. They must undergo a technical inspection and be registered as motorcycles or mopeds, and drivers must hold the appropriate category for motor vehicles. Otherwise, the police will temporarily seize such non-compliant vehicles and report the drivers for misdemeanors," the police stated.

The police also warn that drivers of personal mobility devices must wear a protective helmet while riding and are prohibited from using headphones in both ears. During the night and during the day when visibility is reduced, they must wear a reflective vest or reflective clothing. They are required to use bicycle paths or lanes when available, and if these do not exist, they may move on pedestrian surfaces, but with increased caution and speed adjusted to the conditions.
