Miroslav Škoro on Family: 'They Were Victims of Some of My Decisions'

In a candid interview with Net.hr, the musician spoke about his new song dedicated to his mother and grandmother, involving his children in the video, and upcoming concerts.
Miroslav Škoro (64) has four decades of career behind him and numerous songs that have marked generations. In an interview with Net.hr published on August 5, 2026, on the occasion of his new song 'Laži, Mare', he showed himself primarily as a family man, openly discussing his relationship with his children, memories of his loved ones, and life decisions that affected his family.
The new single 'Laži, Mare' is particularly personal because Škoro dedicated it to his late mother Nediljka and grandmother Mara. The song is an adaptation of a Macedonian traditional song that he translated and added lyrics to. "All my songs are very personal, and 'Laži, Mare' would be most special because it's a Macedonian traditional, or folk, song that I arranged, translated, and added lyrics to," Škoro told Net.hr.
He explained that his mother Neda often mentioned her late mother Mara, so while working on the adaptation, he unconsciously went in that direction. The project gained additional emotional weight with his daughter Ivana Emily (34), who agreed to sing and appear in the video.
In the video, he was joined by both of his children - daughter Ivana Emily, a singer and actress, and son Matija (30), the guitarist in his band. Škoro emphasizes that he and his wife never pushed them toward music. "My children have long ceased to be children; they are serious and, moreover, talented people with their own lives that, fortunately, align with what I do. We didn't force them; they chose their own paths, finished their schooling, but they've been in music their whole lives," he stated.
His son Matija, whom he describes as an excellent guitarist, participated in creating the song. Together with Ivo Plivelić, he arranged the backing track, Škoro recorded the vocals, and Ivica Murat completed the production. "It's usually an in-house solution because they all play with me anyway," he added.
Reflecting on balancing his career and family life, Škoro admitted he regrets some of his actions. "I only regret that I wasn't more cautious in some things, but that doesn't directly concern my family. Indirectly, they were victims of some of my life decisions that were based on my upbringing," he revealed.
When asked what the greatest proof is that he and his wife did a good job as parents, he replied: "The fact that they know the difference between good and evil and have always known the difference between dad and Miroslav Škoro. They are simple and very reasonable people who will, I hope, take over the family business and develop it according to their wishes. Thank God, they are good."
Škoro also announces two significant concerts. The first will take place on September 7, 2026, in his hometown of Višnjevac, as part of the traditional fish stew festival where there can be over 200 pots. "For the first time in my life, I'll have a solo concert on the big stage in Višnjevac," he said, adding that Mliki and the group Vigor have promised to come, and he's considering inviting Mia Dimšić as well.
The second, big concert 'Vrijedilo je' is scheduled for December 19, 2026, at Arena Zagreb. It will also serve as the promotion of his tenth studio album, which, in agreement with Croatia Records, should be released by the end of the year. He modestly says of himself: "I don't delude myself into thinking I'm some important factor on our sparse cultural and artistic scene because there are already enough deluded people. I'm just an entertainer and a slightly overly emotional 64-year-old Slavonian with Imotski roots and a Zagreb address."
