Young Mountaineer Loses Life on Triglav

A peaceful Monday morning on Slovenia's highest peak was shattered by tragedy. A 19-year-old mountaineer died on August 11, 2026, on Triglav after slipping and falling into a ravine at the start of the Tominšek Trail.
According to information published by Dnevnik.si, the young man was returning from Kredarica towards Vrata Valley at the time of the accident. The fatal fall occurred on an extremely demanding section of the trail, and the injuries he sustained were so severe that he died at the scene.
Rescue teams were immediately mobilized. The mountain helicopter rescue team from GRZS, based at Brnik, intervened at the scene. They were joined by mountain rescuers from GRS Mojstrana.
An investigation at the accident site was conducted by an officer from the mountain police unit. The body of the deceased mountaineer was transported by military helicopter, which then returned to the location to pick up other hikers who were on the trail.
The Tominšek Trail is one of the classic approaches to Triglav from the northern side. Although popular among mountaineers, it is known for its exposed sections and requires great caution, especially in the morning hours when rocks can be wet and slippery.
This is yet another in a series of accidents on Slovenia's highest peak, which is also an extremely popular destination among Croatian hikers. The causes of this tragic event have not yet been officially released.
