New Electric BMW M3 to Have Nearly 1000 HP

A prototype of the fully electric BMW M3 has been caught testing on the legendary Nürburgring track. The sports sedan, whose design is based on the M Neue Klasse concept, is expected to hit the market next year. Although BMW is still keeping official technical data under wraps, unofficial information reported by Index.hr suggests power figures ranging from 691 hp (515 kW) to nearly 1000 hp, specifically 986 hp (735 kW).
The new M3 will be positioned above the recently unveiled i3 50 xDrive variant. For comparison, that all-wheel-drive model with two electric motors produces 463 hp (345 kW) and 645 Nm of torque. It uses a 108.7 kWh battery, which is estimated to provide a range of 708 kilometers. It is based on an 800-volt architecture that supports fast DC charging at up to 400 kW.
The electric M3 will significantly surpass those figures thanks to a powertrain with four electric motors. BMW has stated that this system "takes the driving experience and track performance to a whole new level."
The expected power of the new M3 places it ahead of its main rival. For comparison, the competing electric Mercedes-AMG C-Class is estimated to produce around 789 hp (588 kW).
Although final details are still under wraps, BMW has hinted that the car will not carry the i3 M badge. Instead, the model will be called "Electric M3" or "M3 EV." This is intended to emphasize that it is a full-fledged M3 model, not just an electric alternative.
The test car was covered in camouflage, but numerous differences from the standard i3 are still visible. The front bumper is unique, with pronounced air intakes and a triangular central support. Massive additions at the edges suggest possible vertical fog lights, while a prominent front splitter and a hood with cooling vents are also noticeable.
The body sits noticeably lower thanks to sport-tuned suspension, and there are lightweight wheels hiding a high-performance braking system with bronze calipers. At the rear, there is a discreet spoiler, a special bumper, and a large diffuser with air channels.
Photographers were unable to capture the cabin in detail, but it is expected to be very similar to that of the i3. This includes the Panoramic iDrive system and a 17.9-inch infotainment display. The M version will likely also feature a sporty M steering wheel, bolstered seats, and specific trim details.
