The Šibenik County State Attorney's Office has filed an indictment against 50-year-old Kristijan Aleksić for the aggravated murder of a 19-year-old in Drniš. The prosecution is seeking an extension of pretrial detention.
The Šibenik County State Attorney's Office filed an indictment on Monday, August 10, 2026, against 50-year-old Croatian citizen Kristijan Aleksić. He is charged with the aggravated murder of a food delivery driver in Drniš, committed in mid-May this year, as well as with the illegal possession and manufacture of weapons.
According to the indictment, the tragedy occurred on May 16, 2026, at around 11 p.m. Aleksić, as the prosecution alleges, with the premeditated intent to kill the food delivery driver from the restaurant he had previously ordered from, waited for the 19-year-old, born in 2007.
"Upon the arrival of the 19-year-old Croatian citizen who delivered his food, without any provocation, he immediately fired a shot at the victim from a firearm," states the press release from the Šibenik County State Attorney's Office. The young man died at the scene from his injuries.
In addition to the charge of aggravated murder under Article 111, Item 1, Aleksić is also suspected of the unlawful possession, production, and procurement of weapons and explosives, as defined under Article 331, Paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code. The prosecution states that he used a firearm that he had illegally manufactured himself, the possession of which is prohibited for citizens.
A particularly aggravating circumstance is that, according to the version of events presented by the DORH (State Attorney's Office), there was no conflict or any other motive between the defendant and the victim immediately before the shooting. The courier had only arrived to deliver food that had been ordered.
The Šibenik County State Attorney's Office has proposed to the court that Aleksić's pretrial detention be extended. As justification, they cite indications of a flight risk, the existence of special conditions suggesting he could commit a new criminal offense if released, and that detention is necessary for the unimpeded conduct of the criminal proceedings.
The prosecution cites the provisions of Article 123, Paragraphs 1, 3, and 4 of the Criminal Procedure Act, which allow for detention for crimes punishable by long-term imprisonment, especially when the circumstances of the offense are particularly severe. The Šibenik County Court will decide on the proposal, and the defendant is presumed innocent until a final verdict.
