On Wednesday, from 6:30 to 11:30 AM, seat belt and mobile phone use will be monitored, and on Thursday, from 7 AM to 12 PM, speed. Despite a drop in the overall number of accidents, one person has died in the area this year.
Drivers in the Pazin and Buzet areas can expect intensified police checks on Wednesday and Thursday. The Pazin Police Station, with its Buzet branch, has announced two targeted traffic operations to be conducted in the morning hours, focusing on the most common violations that lead to severe consequences.
The first operation is scheduled for Wednesday, August 12, 2026. From 6:30 to 11:30 AM, officers will intensify checks to ensure that drivers and all passengers are wearing seat belts. Simultaneously, they will check whether drivers are using mobile phones improperly while driving.
The following day, Thursday, August 13, from 7 AM to 12 PM, an operation will focus exclusively on controlling vehicle speed. Police will measure at multiple locations whether drivers respect limits and adapt their speed to road conditions.
In the area covered by the Pazin police station with its Buzet branch, a total of 55 traffic accidents were recorded in the first seven months of this year. That is 15 fewer than in the same period last year, representing an encouraging trend of reducing the overall number of incidents on the roads.
However, the statistics also reveal a concerning fact. This year, one fatal accident has been recorded, while in the first seven months of last year, there were no such cases. The number of accidents with injuries fell by six compared to last year, with 25 recorded this year.
In traffic accidents this year, a total of 32 people have been injured. Of that number, one person died, seven sustained serious injuries, and 24 sustained minor injuries. For comparison, in the same period last year, 41 people were injured, of whom 12 were seriously injured and 29 had minor injuries.
The most common type of traffic accident in this area was vehicles running off the road, recorded in 13 cases. The most common driver error was improper or inappropriate speed, which was recorded in as many as 21 accidents.
The police remind that wearing a seat belt is a legal obligation for drivers and all passengers, both in the front and rear seats. Children must be transported in appropriate child seats or booster seats, according to their age and height.
Drivers are advised not to use mobile phones while driving. If calling is necessary, they should use only devices that allow hands-free communication. Regarding speed, the police emphasize that it should be adapted not only to legal limits but also to the actual condition of the road and weather conditions.
