At the Slavonski Brod border crossing, police discovered six counterfeit Bulgarian passports intended for family members, Turkish nationals.
At the Slavonski Brod border crossing, at the entrance to the Republic of Croatia, police officers on August 18, 2026, at approximately 4:20 PM, during a bus inspection, uncovered an attempt to enter with forged documents. A 31-year-old passenger, a Syrian national, was found in possession of six Bulgarian passports suspected to be fake, as reported by Osijek Express and Index.hr.
He was also carrying Greek travel documents and a residence permit, while the forged papers were prepared for his relatives, who are Turkish nationals, aged 26, 21, 10, 9, 6, and 4.
Police officers suspected the authenticity of the Bulgarian documents at first glance. After further checks and a police investigation, it was confirmed that the documents were indeed forged. Police reported that the 31-year-old had arranged the production of the fake passports with an unknown individual abroad, paying a pre-agreed sum for them.
His goal was to ensure his family's unrestricted movement and crossing of the state border. The forged documents were made for a total of six family members.
A criminal complaint was filed against the 31-year-old with the Municipal State Attorney's Office in Slavonski Brod on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of document forgery. Both he and his family were denied entry into Croatia, in accordance with the provisions of the Aliens Act.
The incident occurred yesterday afternoon, and the event was reported on August 19, 2026, by Osijek Express and Index.hr.
