Separate Customs Action at Post Office Reveals Package with Cannabis from Canada
On Sunday, August 2, 2026, at the Svilaj border crossing, an attempt to leave the country with illegal substances was prevented. Police, together with customs officers, stopped a passenger vehicle with Hungarian license plates at around 10:15 AM. Behind the wheel was a 38-year-old Hungarian citizen.
An inspection of the car and luggage revealed 22.30 grams of marijuana and several ecstasy tablets. The drugs were immediately confiscated, and the driver was issued a misdemeanor citation for violating the Law on Combating Drug Abuse. The fine amounted to 663.61 euros.
In a separate incident, customs officers from the Border Customs Office Airport and Post intercepted a package containing more than 10 kilograms of marijuana. The shipment from Canada was flagged for detailed inspection on July 29, 2026, during routine checks of import consignments.
Although the declaration stated it contained women's handbags and wallets, inside was an item wrapped in black foil. Analysis confirmed it to be 10.54 kilograms of marijuana.
The Customs Administration announced that the drugs were handed over to MUP officers, who are continuing the criminal investigation and taking legal measures.
