In a serious traffic accident that occurred in the evening hours of August 11, 2026, in Hadžići near Sarajevo, one person was killed and three were injured. The incident happened when a motorcycle, ridden by an off-duty police officer, struck a group of pedestrians in the Binježevo settlement.
At the helm: Viktor Ćatić, president of the police union
As confirmed for the Klix.ba portal, the motorcycle was ridden by Viktor Ćatić, a police officer with the Sarajevo Canton Ministry of Interior Police Administration. Ćatić is also publicly known as the head of the Union of Police Officers, Civil Servants, and Employees of Sarajevo Canton. At the time of the accident, he was not performing official duties.
At the scene, a 52-year-old woman lost her life, while two individuals sustained severe injuries and one sustained minor injuries. Ćatić was arrested on Wednesday at 1:40 a.m., and the Sarajevo Canton Ministry of Interior stated: "Due to the existence of grounds for suspicion that he committed serious criminal offenses against the safety of public traffic, V.Ć. was arrested at 1:40 a.m."
Investigation under prosecutor's supervision
The information about the accident was confirmed by the spokesperson of the Sarajevo Canton Ministry of Interior, Mersiha Novalić, as reported by Klix.ba. She stated that all three injured individuals were transported and admitted to the Sarajevo University Clinical Center (KCUS), where they are receiving medical care.
The duty prosecutor of the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office was notified of the event, arrived at the scene, and is leading the investigation. The exact reasons why the motorcycle struck the pedestrians have not yet been established.
Incidentally, on roads in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the summer months, there is a significant increase in the number of accidents involving motorcyclists. According to data published by N1 television, summarizing police and media reports, from June 1 to August 11 this year alone, at least ten people have died in such accidents, and a significantly larger number have sustained severe injuries.
