Police entered the City Administration in Slavonski Brod on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, confirmed city councilor Slavica Lemaić. The action followed months of warnings about how one company received a total of 74 contracts worth more than €1.83 million from the City over a period of just three and a half years.
Lemaić, who spoke out about this case in a post titled "1.83 Million Reasons for Answers!", emphasized that the issue is not an isolated invoice for sand or a single volleyball court. She noted that nearly 45 percent of all identified contracts were executed through purchase orders, i.e., without a public tender, raising serious questions about the transparency of city budget spending.
Although the police came to the City Administration, Lemaić made it clear she is not prejudging the outcome. "Today, the police came to the City Administration. That does not mean anyone is guilty, and I am not prejudging the results of the proceedings of the competent institutions," the councilor wrote. She stressed that this is precisely why she insists that institutions, not politics, should establish the facts.
Her point is that if everything was conducted in accordance with the law and transparently, then the documentation should prove it. Otherwise, the competent authorities must determine who is responsible. As a city councilor, she particularly highlighted the issue of transparency in public procurement and potential conflicts of interest.
Police action in itself is not proof of a criminal offense or the guilt of any person or company. However, given the amount of €1.83 million, 74 contracts, and a large number of purchase orders, it is justified to thoroughly examine every contract and every decision.
Slavica Lemaić has been warning for months that the problem is not just a single invoice, but the way public money was distributed. Now, it is not only the opposition demanding the documentation, but also the institutions.
