Over the past few days, police in the Split-Dalmatia County have recorded a series of serious traffic violations, most notably a driver who sped 77 km/h over the limit, prompting authorities to seek the permanent confiscation of his vehicle.

Police officers also conducted an operation at the Rašćane Gornje rest area along the A1 motorway, where a motorcyclist without the right to drive was stopped and refused a drug test. In Kaštel Novi, an electric scooter with an engine power exceeding the legal limit was temporarily seized.
On August 11, just before 11 PM, a passenger car was stopped on Dračevac Street in Split after speeding through a residential area at 137 km/h. The speed limit on that stretch is 60 km/h, meaning the driver exceeded the limit by a full 77 kilometers per hour.
Further checks revealed that the man got behind the wheel despite having his driver's license revoked, a measure in effect from July 20, 2026, to July 20, 2028. Police note that this individual is a repeat offender who has been convicted three times before.
The driver was taken into custody, and his car was temporarily seized. After an expedited court hearing, police requested his detention due to the risk of reoffending, a total prison sentence of 60 days, and the permanent confiscation of the vehicle. The court ordered a six-day detention, after which the man was remanded to prison.
A 36-year-old man also appeared in court after being stopped by police on August 11 at around 11:20 PM at the Rašćane Gornje rest area. It was determined that he was riding a motorcycle before he had regained the right to drive, as his license had been revoked and confiscated back in October 2022 after accumulating 12 negative penalty points.
When officers asked him to undergo a preliminary drug test, he refused. Additionally, he was not carrying his driver's license or ID card. Given that he is also a repeat traffic offender, police proposed detention, a fine of 1,370 euros, and a 30-day prison sentence. The court released the 36-year-old, and the case has been forwarded for regular proceedings.
In Kaštel Novi, shortly after midnight on August 13, an 18-year-old riding an electric scooter was stopped. Checks revealed that the scooter's motor power exceeded the legal limit, violating the Road Traffic Safety Act.
The scooter was temporarily seized, and the young man was fined. Police have stated they will continue to intensify monitoring of this category of road users, with a particular focus on removing high-powered electric scooters that are not permitted on the roads and could endanger others.
